John Sully Sullivan, is a NYSCA awarded composer, sound designer, and producer from New York City, certified with an MFA in Sound Design from the Yale School of Drama. His compositions and designs for stage and film have crossed the globe including Europe, Asia, Australia and North, Central and South America.
John has been the resident composer for TEMPORARY DISTORTION since 2007, and an artist in residency at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center and at EMPAC—The Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center.
On Broadway Sully has assisted principal sound designer Fitz Patton for Harvey Fierstein’s TORCH SONG directed by Moises Kaufman, Steve Martin’s METEOR SHOWER directed by Jerry Zaks and Edward Albee’s THREE TALL WOMEN directed by Joe Mantello.
As a producer, John helps artists transform ideas into release-ready records by managing every stage of the audio production process—from the first recording to the final master. As a recording engineer, mix engineer, and mastering engineer, he provides a seamless workflow that keeps projects efficient, cohesive, and sonically consistent.
Whether developing a song from a rough demo or refining a finished performance, he focuses on capturing authentic emotion while delivering the technical precision expected in today’s competitive media industry. His approach combines creative collaboration with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every production reflects the artist’s vision while translating across streaming platforms, broadcast, and live playback systems.
By handling tracking, editing, mixing, and mastering under one roof, he eliminates communication gaps between production stages, reduces turnaround time, and maintains complete creative continuity throughout the project. He works across a wide range of genres, adapting his techniques to serve the music rather than forcing a signature sound.
